A Perspective article recently published by us in Human Gene Therapy presents InsightRP2, our integrated, highly interactive research network on RP2-associated retinitis pigmentosa. Connecting clinical insight with mechanistic understanding and therapeutic innovation, it may provide a model for interdisciplinary translational approaches of research into rare inherited retinal diseases.
Text description of visual
The visual abstract is arranged in three horizontal sections.
At the top, a header identifies the publication: “Bögershausen et al.”, followed by the title “InsightRP2 – An interdisciplinary approach towards therapy development in RP2-associated retinopathy” and the journal reference “Human Gene Therapy, 2026”. The InsightRP2 logo — a stylised eye containing a DNA symbol — appears in the top-right corner alongside the project website (www.insight-rp2.org).
The central section presents a diagram. On the left, a large circular element is labelled “RP2-associated retinopathy”. Inside the circle, a group icon is shown above the contributing disciplines: Human Genetics, Cell Biology, Ophthalmology, AI & Data Science, and Gene & Cell Therapy.
Behind and to the right of the circle is a semi-circular sequence of five colour-coded segments. Each segment contains an icon and is connected by a line to one of five horizontal boxes labelled from top to bottom: Clinical & Genetics Research, AI-based Imaging Analysis, Functional Variant Mapping, Experimental Disease Modeling, Targeted Therapy Development.
A footer spans the full width of the graphic stating “The InsightRP2 multidisciplinary network is designed to close knowledge & treatment gaps for RP2-associated retinopathy.”
